One Week Until...

...the wedding! Crazy. Yes, folks. My wedding is a week from tomorrow. Right now, my house is in a flurry of wedding preparations - random crafts are decorating walls, countertops, even Lana's old keyboard. We're slowly making our way through a long, long list of everything wedding.

I'm not worried that seeing these piles will give anything away... But you get the idea... Messy house.

At the same time, we're preparing for Lana and Vickie to move out... It makes me teary just thinking of it, but I will steal myself to the challenge. I love Derek dearly, but after living in this exact apartment for a year and a half with Lana and Vickie, it will be odd at first to be living with a boy!

So, along with the piles of wedding, we also have piles like this everywhere.

Lana, Vickie and I have been going through our cupboards, closets, etc. Sorting out what belongs to who and who wants to keep what. Derek and I actually carted off four large garbage bags of clothing, kitchen wares, and other various knicknacks to MCC yesterday. We could have probably made a fortune at a garage sale, but until we have one of those, we'll have to let MCC make the fortune (and speaking of garages, stay tuned for a short post on that next week).
All this talk of wedding has made me awfully curious about other people's weddings. If you've been married, leave a comment! Tell me about your favourite part of the wedding (other than the obvious, I got married! Or, all my friends and family were there!). I'm wondering, was it the food? Or some cute little DIY project? Maybe you loved tossing the handmade bouquet? Or the slideshow that your cousin Freddy put together? And for those of you who aren't married yet, what's something you've always wanted to do at your wedding? Spill the proverbial wedding beans, folks!

Right now, I'm really loving the bird/bow-tie/twine mobiles we're currently making. Don't worry, I'll be sharing photos of them in action after the wedding, of course!

Wedding Sneak Peak: Update on the Dress!

Well, I thought I ought to share a bit more of the story of THE DRESS. No, not my wedding dress, though of course that's what most people would assume when I mention a dress. What I'm talking about is the infamous BRIDESMAID DRESS. Seriously, if there were no other reasons for never getting married again (aka. I'm completely in love with my man and totally believe in the "till-death-do-us-part" idea) I would never, ever have another wedding because of these darn dresses!
What I said in the last post on this was that my roommate/maid-of-honor - Lana - and I had finally found her dress. Situations happened that made it complicated to order it, but we did. And it was wonderful. Until of course, I didn't realize that the company was sending it with FedEx, and FedEx didn't realize that I didn't have a door buzzer for the apartment, and when I saw the slip on the door to the apartment building saying that a FedEx package had arrived, I thought that the slip said it was a package for apartment #306 (I'm #305). Yep. It was wonderful until then.
So, you know, a month goes by, and I start to wonder where the dress is. Should have arrived AGES ago. Eventually, I decide to search my email to see if they included a tracking number. And guess what. Turns out FedEx brought it to our apartment weeks before! I'm pretty sure I almost threw up from frustration.

Remember this picture from last time? It was about a thousand times worse.

Of course, the best thing about this was, that I figured it out about a minute before I had to leave for work. So who did I call?

GHOSTBUSTERS!!!

Well, no. Actually I called Derek... But he was way better then any three ghost-busting guys from the 80s. He called FedEx for me, then the company from whom we ordered the dress, figured out how to get them to resend it to us, and even used his credit card again. Everything was wonderful. I worked with a smile.
Until the next morning when I checked my email and read over the message from the company that said that our order was cancelled. Like... seriously? What in the world? I swear, life is out to get me.

But, like all stories, this one had a happy ending. Derek called them again (ah, my hero), and figured out that it was actually a promotion - where you get a free gift if you purchase the dress - that was cancelled. The dress arrived, and its now hanging in our closet waiting for the wedding day - and contrary to previous worries, it even fits her perfectly! Happy day.

Tour 2012 - Esther

Late Monday night, my drama team from school returned to Steinbach after eight days touring parts of western Canada with our self-written play on Esther. We went as far as Picture Butte, Alberta, performing at churches, youth groups, and Christian schools. With at least one performance every day, and several days of nine or ten hour drives in an Astro van, tour was gold. We went to The Cave (a restaurant in Saskatoon with, as Terry said, overpriced, bad food and awkward atmosphere):

Picture of the front entrance found here.

We also saw The Pirates: Band of Misfits (by the same people who created Chicken Run and Wallace and Grommit), which we all agreed reflected our humor. In fact, we also found that the Jungle Jam children's radio tapes could have been written by us. It was odd, but entertaining, of course.

As a team we created video-logs (vlogs) for each day of tour. I have included the links here. They will do a much better job of showing our tour than I can. I'm not sure where the last two are, but when they're up, I'll post them.
